We took a day trip from Las Vegas to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. We caught the bus at the Excalibur Hotel at 7:00 am and returned after 10:00 pm. It was the best day! We used Canyon Tours and it was wonderful and we highly recommend.
We stopped along the way for lunch on Route 66 and did a drive by the Hoover Dam. When we arrived at the South Rim we had the option to self tour or pay an extra $20 per person for a tour guide. We went with the tour guide and do not regret it. We were at the Grand Canyon for about 3 hours. As you can imagine the views were breathtaking. We walked approximately 2 miles. It was spectacular. The canyon is over 70 million years old. The air in the area is some of the cleanest in the United States. It attracts more than 5 million visitors annually. The average elevation of the South Rim, the most popular tourist area of the canyon, is approximately 7000 feet. Numerous Native Americans called the area home. The Grand Canyon area is also home to a variety of plants and animals. I highly recommend a visit to this most beautiful of natural landmarks.
